WHAT’S ON IN MÜ‘s Anna has been busy organizing a collaboration between Munich and London artists, entitled 100 Word Pilgrimage.
The exhibition will be at PLATFORM in Obersendling – a space dedicated to contemporary art and culture in the city. The London storytelling collective Beddow ‘n’ Battini visited Munich to collaborate with local artists on their 100 Word Pilgrimage project. Essentially, the exhibition will challenge the old adage “a picture is worth a thousand words”, yet the collective do not pit words against images, but rather fuse the two elements – visual art is used to complement text.
It started out as a way to develop new perspectives in London. The collective’s writers would head out into the city to bring back 100 word interpretations of different parts of London – and the visual artists followed, responding to the writings. The collaboration is wholly transferable, and thus Anna brought the concept to Munich, allowing the London collective to team up with Munich artists to explore the city with their pens and their paintbrushes.
The vernissage is on May 8 at 7pm, and will be accompanied with a guest performance from Russian eight-string guitar virtuoso Alexander Vynograd – one of the best in the world. The exhibition proper starts on May 9 and will continue until May 12 (11am-7pm daily), with a couple of tours planned. For more information, check out the Facebook event.
