It’s just two days until Thanksgiving! If you’re planning on cooking, the New York Times has a comprehensive, easy-to-navigate recipe guide, and Sarah posted this great recipe for pumpkin puree, which I’ve bookmarked to use in my pumpkin pie this year.
If you’re looking for a turkey, Stephani’s Geflügelparadies at Viktualienmarkt is your best bet. Customer service there is excellent.
Thankfully, I’ve seen plenty of fresh cranberries about Munich this year, so making cranberry sauce yourself shouldn’t be a problem, but there’s always Preiselbeeren in glass jars for those of you who’ve run out of time. Pecans have been spotted at Kaufhof and Viktualienmarkt, though I imagine the larger supermarkets have them too. And if you’re looking for brown sugar, Vincello does Billington’s, and Pomeroy and Winterbottom has a selection of brown sugars.
If all that’s too much hassle, here are a few restaurants that’ll be serving up a Thanksgiving meal:
As they did last year, Kennedy’s are hosting a Thanksgiving special from 5pm onwards. Along with the traditional turkey dinner, they’ll be showing two NFL games – the Detroit Lions vs. Chicago Bears and Dallas Cowboys vs. Philadelphia Eagles.
New Orleans bar and restaurant, The Big Easy, is hosting a Thanksgiving meal too. It’s an all-you-can-eat American buffet, costing 31.50 €. They do great cocktails, and will have a live band playing for Thanksgiving – if you fancy it, they request that you reserve in advance.
Of course, the Hard Rock Cafe will also be celebrating Thanksgiving, with turkey meals starting from midday. They’ll be showing the football too, and have asked people to reserve in advance.
I haven’t been to Zooziez since living at Baldeplatz four years ago, and I think they’ve renovated the restaurant since. They’re hosting a Thanksgiving party, with corn chowder, roast turkey with stuffing and three pies – apple, pumpkin and cranberry. All for just 15 €!
Grill93 in the Marriott is offering a three-course Thanksgiving dinner plus wine to take away for 40 € – which is a rather nice idea if you can’t be bothered with the cooking, don’t want to watch the football and want a cosy autumnal night in.
